About Us

We are a very busy Institute with involvement in other groups and organisations within the village.

Members support many local charity events by serving refreshments at Christmas concerts; for the New Year’s Day Ramblers and for the riders in The Willow Foundation Charity Bike Ride. We have knitted Twiddle Muffs for a local care home, Fish and Chip Jumpers for African babies and Teddies for Mercy Ships. We donate toiletries, children’s toys and games, cot blankets and baby items to the Stevenage Women’s Refuge.  Annually we support the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth by taking them handmade cakes for visitors and patients.  Six years ago we planted flower beds under the gateway signs at both ends of the village and these are replanted twice a year with a display of seasonal flowers.

We volunteer as readers with children at a Stevenage Primary School;   as library assistants at the newly formed Knebworth Community Library and as assistants in the the WI County Shop.

Our monthly talks have ranged from Mercy Ships, Agatha Christie, Make up demonstration, WGC Male Voice Choir and Crosswords. Activities have included making  Christmas Wreaths with our local florist and Speed Dating (WI Style) when members had just a few minutes to chat to each other in rotation round the room helping us to get to know each other better.

Our many activities include scrabble, single ladies who lunch, homecraft, bookworms, rambles, keep fit, theatre trips, coach outings, fundraising lunches and afternoon teas.  We celebrate Christmas with a lunch and a visit to the local pantomime, and for our birthday each year we have a party.

Knebworth WI Facebook page showcases the various events and outings that we have enjoyed.
