Mulled Wine and Mince Pies

The WI Aprons have been well used during the month of December.  Firstly at the Knebworth Community Chorus Christmas Concert in the Knebworth Village Hall.

The following week another team were back in the Village Hall, this time supporting the Waste Not Want Not Nurturing Plants and People (North Herts & Stevenage) organisation. Kim Wilde, who is a patron of the charity, gave a concert with her husband Hal Fowler, which had us all ‘rockin around the Christmas Tree’ !!

The aprons came out the following week for the Knebworth New Year’s Day Rambles when our ladies served the walkers, who had survived the chilly weather,  with well deserved cups of tea and mince pies.

Those aprons are sure to be out and about again soon…

WGC Male Voice Choir

At our meeting in November we were entertained by a section of Welwyn Garden City Male Voice Choir. Knebworth resident, Hugh Smith, chairman of the choir, told us that it was formed in 1935 mainly by expatriated miners from South Wales. Over the years the choir has sung at many prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and also taken part in radio and TV programmes.

They sung for us a selection from their repertoire including Welsh hymns, opera and popular songs and the Knebworth ladies joined them in singing Jerusalem and Cym Rhondda. What a treat for us to hear their harmonious voices and we all agreed that it had been a very uplifting evening. The choir, whose patron is Sir Bryn Terfel, is always looking for new members so if you know of any men who can sing in tune why not get them to check out the choir’s website .
