Knebworth WI have created sub groups which generally meet monthly.
The bookworms take turns to host their group and serve tea and cakes while they discuss books they have read.
This group shares craft ideas and techniques and meets on the first Tuesday of the month at the Community Hall, Wickfield Close, Woolmer Green.
Ladies take turns to host and provide tea and cakes for this group every 4 weeks. They bring their knitting but sometimes it is sewing, beading or another craft that takes place.
This is group is called Active Together and is organised by North Herts District Council. It encourages 50+ to take part in gentle exercise sessions as well as play badminton and table tennis. Some WI ladies attend and have a great time which also includes socialising while they have tea and biscuits. The sessions are held on a Friday morning in the Village Hall 11.30 – 13.00.
This isn’t exclusively a WI group but was originally started by them. The Ramblers meet every other Tuesday morning and can walk up to 5 miles sometimes stopping at a pub for refreshments. Lifts can be arranged.
This group meet once a month during the winter to play Scrabble and have tea and cake. Usually there are three boards playing and then players change to different boards during the session. Each player pays £1 which goes towards buying the plants for the flower beds at the Knebworth gateways.
Single Ladies Who Lunch
Ladies meet once a month for lunch at a different pub, café or fish and chip shop in the area. They all arrange lifts together which is a great help to those less mobile.
